Performing The
Sacrificial Offering By Proxy |
| |
According to Islamic rules, a Muslim may
authorize any other trusted person(s) in performing the
slaughtering ritual on his or her behalf. The person(s)
authorized must discharge the obligation in such a manner
that would fulfill the Islamic requirements relevant to this
undertaking.
Performing the sacrificial offering is not a pre-requisite
for the complete termination of the state of Ihram.
Pilgrims, however, should be reassured that the actual
slaughtering of the sacrificial animals starts immediately
after Eid-Aladha prayer and is usually completed before the
sunset of the 13th of Zul Hijah (the last day of the
Tashreeq days), as the Prophet (PBUH) said: Slaughtering;
- all the Tashreeq days. Ahmed
Obviously, the proxy system is designed for the
convenience of pilgrims, especially the elderly amongst
them, sparing them the time and the trouble of inching and
struggling their way through the crowds to get to the
slaughterhouse.
The proxy will be appointed as an authorized by the pilgrim
to carry out the sacrifice ritual on his or her behalf, or
to the person acting on behalf of at least 50 pilgrims to
represent the group in conducting or supervising of
slaughtering. Group representatives are entitled to take a
number of slaughtered sheep, fully skinned and cleaned, if
they so desire.
In order to be admitted into the slaughterhouse, group
representatives must produce the permits given to them by
EasyHajj Society at the time of buying the coupons.
EasyHajj Society has provided all the
facilities needed to ensure that
the animals sold satisfy all the religious and health
requirements.

Specifications required
in Sacrificial Animals |
| |
| According to Islamic rules, there are two
major requirements that must be fulfilled in animals chosen
for sacrifice: Malik has reported from Hisham Bin Urwah and
he from his father that he used to tell his sons: O my
sons! Do not slaughter an animal in the name of Allah such
as you will be embarrassed to present as a gift to a close
and respected friend of yours. Allah is the Most Honorable
and Most Generous, and He is the most deserving to be
offered the best of what you have. 1. The animal must be of minimum age as follows:
(Camels 5 Years), (Cows 2 Years), (Goats 1 Year) and (Sheep
6 Months)
2. The animal must be of complete
formation and development. Freedom from visible defects
should be ensured. In particular, the animals should NOT be:
- Observably lame in walking.
- Visibly sick.
- Clearly infirm or debilitated.
- Noticeably one-eyed.
- With a cut ear, or with more than
half of its horn or teeth broken off.
As a rule, a sheep or
a goat serves as a sacrificial offering by not more than one
person; whereas a cow or a camel may be jointly offered by
not more than seven persons. |
