IN THE NAME OF ALLAH THE BENEFICENT THE
MERCIFUL
Thanks and all praise be to Allah who says: “… And when my
servants ask you about Me, then say: surly I am near. I
answer the prayer of the supplicant when he prays to Me. So
let them also, with a will, listen to My call, and believe
in Me, in order that they may walk in the right way -
[2:186].
I praise Him, thank Him, repent to Him and ask Him for His
forgiveness. And I declare and bear witness that none has
the right to be worshipped but Allah, alone, there is no
partner to Him, He said: “And ask Allah of His bounty
surely, Allah is ever knower of all things - [4:32]. And I
declare and bear witness the Muhammad is the servant of
Allah and His Messenger. Allah has revealed to Him: “Or, who
answers the distressed person when he calls upon Him, and
removes the evil, and has made you (mankind) viceroys of the
earth? - [27:62].
Supplication is to call upon Allah, the Exalted & Glorious,
in devotion, sincerity, solemnity and complete
submissiveness. Therefore Allah, glory be to Him, said: And
He is the most truthful of Sayers “O mankind, call upon your
Allah humbly and in secret, surely He does not love the
transgressors. And do not work confusion in the earth, after
it has been set in order, and call upon Him in fear and
hope. Surely, the mercy of Allah is (always) near to those
who do good - [7:55,56].
The Supplication, which a Muslim has been instructed to
make, reflects the one single attitude of submission,
humility and closeness to Allah. It is an expression of his
sense of nearness to Allah, of His Might and Power, of his
confidence in His mercy, grace and blessings.
Abu Huraira (R) narrated: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said:
“Our Allah, the Blessed and Exalted, descends every night to
the heaven of the world when the last third of the night
remains and says: “Who supplicates Me so that I may respond
to his invocation? Who asks Me for something so that I may
give (it to) him? Who asks Me forgiveness so that I may
forgive him? - [Agreed Upon].
So Allah, glory be to Him, loves His servant when he calls
upon Him, but He becomes angry when a servant calls upon
created beings.
We invoke Allah, the Blessed and the Superior, to make this
humble work purely for His sake, “And our success (in our
task) can only come from Allah. In Him we trust and unto Him
we turn (repentant) - [11:88]. He (Allah) is sufficient for
us, and He is an Excellent Guardian.
*********************************************************************************
The supplications are accepted under certain
conditions
On the authority of Abu Huraira (R), who said: The Messenger
of Allah (PBUH) said: “Allah the Almighty is good and
accepts only that which is good. Allah has commanded the
Faithful to do that which is commanded the Messengers, and
the Almighty has said: “O ye Messengers! Eat of the good
things, and do right - [23:51] And Allah the Almighty has
said: “O ye who believe! Eat of the good things wherewith We
have provided you - [2:172]. Then he mentioned (the case of)
a man who, having journeyed far, is dishevelled and dusty
and who spreads out his hands to the sky (saying): O Allah!
O Allah! While his food is unlawful, his drink is unlawful,
his clothing is unlawful, and he is nourished unlawfully, So
how can he be answered! - [Sahih Muslim].
One should invoke Allah with strong conviction that his
request should be granted
Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet (PBUH) said: - (O
mankind) call upon Allah with hope and single-minded
devotion that Allah - in His Infinite Mercy - would respond
to your invocation, and know that Allah does not respond to
the supplication of a heart which is heedless and toying as
with trifles - [At-Termithy].
Supplication should be made with conviction and will
Abu Huraira narrated that the Prophet said: “None of you
should say: O Allah! Forgive me if you wish, or Bestow Your
mercy on me if You wish, or provide me with means of
subsistence if You wish, but he should be firm in his
request, for Allah does what he wills and nobody can force
Him (to do anything) - [Agreed Upon].
Supplication is granted if the supplicant does not show
impatience
Abu Huraira narrated that Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said:
“The supplication of anyone of you is granted (by Allah) as
long as he does not grow impatient and says: I supplicated
but it was not granted - [Agreed Upon].
The raising of the hands on invoking (Allah)
Anas narrated, The Prophet (PBUH) raised his hands till I
saw the whiteness of his armpits [Al-Bukhari].
Abu Huraira reported: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) as saying:
“Two are the expressions which are light on the tongue, but
heavy in scale, dear to the Compassionate One: Glory be to
Allah and praise is due to Him; Glory be to Allah, the
Great - [Agreed Upon].
Abu Huraira reported: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) as saying:
“The uttering of (these words): Glory be to Allah, all
praise is due to Allah, there is none has the right to be
worshipped but Allah, and Allah is the Greatest, is dearer
to me than anything over which the sun rises - [Agreed Upon].
Obedience of Allah in affluent circumstances avails in hard
circumstances
Abdullah the son of Abbas narrated: One day I was behind -
riding behind him on the same mount - the Prophet (PBUH) and
he said to me: “O young man! I shall teach you some words
(of advice): Be mindful of Allah, so Allah will protect you.
Be mindful of Allah, and you will find Him in front of you.
If you ask, ask of Allah: if you seek help, seek help of
Allah. Know that if the Nation were to gather together to
benefit you with anything, it would benefit you only with
something that Allah had already prescribed for you, and
that if they gather together to harm you with anything, they
would harm you only with something Allah had already
prescribed for you. The pens have been lifted and the pages
have dried - (i.e. what has been written and decreed cannot
be altered) [At-Tirmthy].
In a version other than that of At-Tirmthy it reads: “Be
mindful Allah, you will find Him before you. Get to know
Allah in prosperity and He will know you in adversity. Know
that what has passed you by was not going to befall you and
that what has befallen you was not going to pass you by. And
know that victory comes with patience, relief with
affliction, and ease with hardship -
THE MERIT OF PRONOUNCING TAHLIL AND TASBIH
Abu Huraira reported: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) as saying: He
who uttered these words: “La Ilaha Ila Allah Wahadahu La
Sharika Lahu Lahu Almulk Wa Lahu Alhamd Wahua Ala Kul
Shai’in Kadeer - There is none has the right to be
worshipped but Allah, the One, having no partner with Him.
Sovereignty belongs to Him and all the praise is due to Him,
and He is Potent over everything, One hundred times every
day there is a reward of emancipating ten slaves for him,
and there are recorded hundred virtues to his credit, and
hundred vices are blotted out from his scroll, and that is a
safeguard for him against the Satan on that day till evening
and no one brings anything more excellent than this, except
one who has done more than this (who utters these words more
than one hundred times and does more good acts) and he who
utters: “Glory be to Allah, and all praise is due to Him -
one hundred times a day, his sins are obliterated even if
they are equal to the extent of the foam of the ocean -
[Agreed Upon].

sleep). And by (Your leave) raise it up. So if you take away

servants.
Aaishah narrated: Whenever the Prophet (PBUH) went to bed
every night, he used to join his hands together and blow
over them after reciting Surat Al-Ikhlas, Surat Al-Falaq and
Surat An-Nas, and then rub his hands over whatever parts of

said: “He who put on a new dress then said: All praise
belongs to Allah who has dressed this on me and given me of
it without a might and strength of mine, then Allah will
forgive all his past sins - br>

be thrown out of the right path, not to make or be caused to
make a mistake, not to oppress or be oppressed, not to speak
or be spoken to foolishly - .

the best entering and the best exit. In the name of Allah we
entered, and in the name of Allah we left, and upon Allah we
depend - then say salam (greet) to his family).
TO THE SNEEZER IF HE/SHE PRASISE ALLAH
Abu Huraira reported: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said: “If
anyone of you sneezes. He/she should say “Al-Hamdu-lillah -
(Praise be to Allah), and his (Muslim) brother or companion
should say to him “Yar-hamuka Allah - (may Allah bestow His
mercy on you). When the latter says: “Yar-hamuka Allah, the
former should say: “Yahdikum Allah Wa Yuslih Balakum - (may
Allah give you guidance and improve your condition) - [Al-Bukhari].
ENTERING THE MOSQUE: In the name of Allah. O Allah
Bless Muhammad. O Allah Open Your gates of mercy for me.
LEAVING THE MOSQUE: O Allah I beg of You Your bounty.
LEAVING A MEETING: Abu Huraira narrated that Allah’s
Messenger (PBUH) said: “He who sits in a meeting and utters
much of vain talk, then says before leaving: Glory be to
You, O Allah, and praise is due to You. I bear witness that
there is none has the right to be worshipped but You. I beg
Your forgiveness and repent to You. Surely, all what he
sinned in that meeting is forgiven by Allah - [At-Termithy]
ON HEARING THE AZAN: Abu Said Al-Khudri reported: the
Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “Whenever you hear the Azan,
say what the Moazen is saying - [Agreed Upon].
ON HEARING THE AZAN: Omar Ebn Al-Khattab reported:
the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said: “When the Moazen says:
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, one of you
should make this response: Allah is the Greatest, Allah is
the Greatest. When the Moazen says: I testify that there is
none has the right to be worshipped but Allah, one should
respond: I testify that there is none has the right to be
worshipped but Allah. When the Moazen says: I testify that
Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah, one should respond: I
testify that Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. When the
Moazen says: Come to prayer, one should respond: There is no
might and no power except with Allah. When the Moazen says:
Come to success, one should respond: There is no might and
no power except with Allah. When the Moazen says: Allah is
the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest, one should respond:
Allah is the Greatest, Allah is the Greatest. When the
Moazen says: There is none has the right to be worshipped
but Allah, one should respond: There is none has the right
to be worshipped but Allah. He who makes a response from his
heart, he will enter paradise - [Sahih Muslim].
AFTER LISTENING TO THE AZAN: (O Allah! Allah of this
perfect call and of the regular prayer, which is going to be
established! Kindly give Muhammad the right of intercession
and superiority and raise him from the death (on the Day of
Resurrection) to the best and the highest place in Paradise
which You promised him) (I testify that there is none has
the right to be worshipped but Allah and Muhammad is the
servant of Allah and His Messenger (and that) I am satisfied
with Allah as my Lord, with Muhammad as Messenger, and with
Islam as Deen (religion or code of life)).
SUPPLICATION IN THE PRAYER

partner with Him and this is what I have been commanded (to
profess and believe) and I am of those who surrenders (unto
Him) -
- “O Allah! Set me far away from my sins (faults) as You

snow and hail) - br>
AT-TAAMEEN

prostrate myself and it is in You I affirm my faith, and I

and says to complete a hundred: There is none has the right
to be worshipped but Allah, alone having no partner with

wouldst cleanse a white garment from impurity and give
him/her an abode, in exchange, more excellent than his/her
home (in the world), and a family better than his/her
family, and wife/husband better than his/her wife/husband.
Admit his/her to the Paradise, and protect him/her from the
torment of the grave and the torment of the Fire - br>
- O Allah! Grant forgiveness to our living and to our dead,
and to those who are present and to those who are absent,
and to our young and to our old folk, and to our males, and
our females. O Allah! Whomsoever You grant to live, from
among us, help him/her to live in Islam (as Muslim), and
whomsoever of us You cause to die, help him/her to die in
faith (as believer). O Allah! Do not deprive us of the
reward for patience on his/her loss, and do not make us
subject to trial after him/her - br>
SUPPLICATION IN THE FASTING
FASTING & SEEING THE CRESCENT

to say, whenever he saw the crescent: “Allah is the
Greatest, O Allah! Make it forthcoming to us with
blessedness (or security) and faith and safely and Islam
(Submission to Allah), and welfare that which You love and
please. Allah is my Lord and your Lord. It is the crescent
of good and right, It is the crescent of good and right, It

You from hardships of the journey, gloominess of the sights,
and finding of evil changes in property and family and

punishment, to favour me with Your forgiveness, and to cause
me to enter Your vast Paradise, the Paradise of Bliss. O
Allah! This is Your sanctuary and the Sanctuary of Your
Messenger, forbid my flesh, blood and bones to the fire. O
Allah! Guard me from Your punishment on the day You will
bring back to life Your slaves. I beseech You, as You are
Allah, there is none has the right to be worshipped but You,
the Beneficent, the Merciful, to shower Your Blessings and
peace unto Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and unto his family.

tradition (Sunnah) of Your Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) - - “O
Allah! Let my Pilgrimage be accepted, my sins remitted and
my endeavour rewarded - - “O Allah! Grant us pardon and
mercy, overlook what You know. You are the Mighty, the
Glorious. O Allah! Our Lord! Give unto us in this world that
which is best, and in the Hereafter that which is best, and
guard us from the punishment of fire - br>
DRINKING ZAMZAM WATER
AL-SAFA & AL-MARWAH
- Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest, Allah is Greatest.
Allah is Greatest and High Exalted (beyond measure), Praise
be to Allah and Glory be unto Him, the Mighty in the morn
and evening. There is none has the right to be worshipped
but Allah, alone, Who has fulfilled His promise, bring
victory to His slave and defeated the clans, all alone.
Naught preceded Him nor comes after Him. He gives life and
He gives death, He is ever alive and does not die. In His
hand is the good and (by His will) our destiny is decided.
Lo! He is able to do all things. O my Lord! Forgive my sins
and have mercy upon me. Grant me Your pardon, Overlook that
which You know, because You know what we do not know,
surely! You, only You, are the Mighty, the Glorious.
- Our Lord! Save us from the Punishment of fire, and make us
win, rejoice and optimistic, with Your righteous slaves, and
with those on whom Allah has bestowed His blessings, of the
Prophets, the Sincere (lovers of Truth), the Martyrs and the
Righteous. And the best company are these. That grace is
from Allah (unto His slaves), and sufficient is Allah, the
all - Knowing. Truly, indeed! None has the right to be
worshipped but Allah. There is no god but Allah who deserves
to be worshipped. There is no god but Allah and we worship
none but Him, with sincere devotion to Him in religion, even
though the unbelievers may hate it.
ARAFAT DAY
Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) said: “The best supplication is the
one on the day of Arafat and the best supplication which I
and the Messengers preceding me offered is, - There is no
got but Allah. He is Alone, having no partner. For Him is
the Kingdom and all the Praises. He causes life and death
and He has power over everything. - br>
The (most superior) of invocation for asking Allah’s
forgiveness.
- O Allah! You are my Lord! None has the right to be
worshipped but You. You created me and I am Your slave, and
I am faithful to my covenant and my promise (To You) as much
as I can. I seek refuge with You from all the evil I have
done. I acknowledge before You all the blessings You have
bestowed upon me, and I confess to You all my sins. So I
entrust You to forgive my sins, for nobody can forgive my
sins except You -
SUPPLCATION DURING THE TIME OF CALAMITY
Ibn Abbas narrated: Allah’s Messenger (PBUH) used to say at
a time of distress, - None has the right to be worshipped
but Allah, the Majestic, the Most Forbearing, None has the
right to be worshipped but Allah, the Lord of the Tremendous
Throne. None has the right to be worshipped but Allah, the
Lord of the heavens and the Lord of the earth and the Lord
of the Honourable Throne -
MAKING ISTIKHARA
(AN APPEAL TO ALLAH TO GUIDE YOU ON THE RIGHT PATH AS
REGARDS A CERTAIN MATTER)
If anyone of you intends to do something, he/she should
offer two Rakaats prayer other than the obligatory prayer,
and then say: “O Allah! I consult You as You are
All-Knowing, and appeal to You to give me power as You are
Omnipotent, and ask You for Your great favour, for You have
power, but I don’t, and You have knowledge, but I don’t
have, and You Know all hidden matters. O Allah, if You know
that this matter is good for me in my religion, my
livelihood, and for my life in the Hereafter (or said: For
my present and future life), then do it for me; And if You
know that this matter is evil (not good) for me in my
religion, my livelihood, and for my life in the Hereafter
(or said: For my present and future life), then keep it away
from me and take me away from it, and choose what is good
for me wherever it is, and please me with it - Then you
should mention your matter (need).
In Conclusion, we would like to mention these two hadiths:
Anas (R) said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (PBUH) says:
“Allah the Almighty has said: O son of Adam, so long as you
call upon Me and ask Me, I shall forgive you for what you
have done, and I shall not mind. O son of Adam, were your
sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask
forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O son of Adam, were
you to come to Me with sins nearly as great as the earth and
were you then to face Me, ascribing no partner to Me, I
would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it - I.e. as
the earth, meaning that Allah will give forgiveness in like
measure to a man’s sins. [At-Termithy].
Abdullah Ebn Mas’ud (R) narrated that Allah’s Messenger (PBUH)
said: “No kind of anxiety nor sadness befalls anyone of you,
then he says: O Allah, I am Your servant, the son of Your
servant and Your bondmaid, my forelock (i.e. my destiny, my
doom) is in Your hand, I am submissive to Your judgement,
Your Judgement on me is fair and just. I ask You by every
name that is Yours - by which you called Yourself - or You
mentioned in Your book or taught to anyone of Your creatures
or you appropriated it (kept it) in Your divination, to make
Quran the tranquillity (peacefulness) of my heart, the light
of my heart, the expellant of my sadness and the departure
of my anxiety. (When he/she says these words) Surely Allah
will expel his/her sadness and pains. And He will replace
him/her happiness - It was said: O Messenger of Allah, do we
have to learn them? Allah’s Messenger said: “Yes, everyone,
who had heard them should learn them - [Ahmed].
Different Dua’as
- O Allah, I seek protection in the light of Your
Countenance which illuminated all darkness, and which has
controlled all affairs in this world as well as in the
Hereafter. May it never be that I should incur Your wrath,

the right to blame and to chastise until Your pleasure is
met, and there is neither resource nor strength except in
You alone -
- O Allah! I beg of You the right guidance, safeguard
against evils, chastity and freedom from want and
neediness -
“I seek refuge with Allah against any severe trial and bad
luck, and adverse judgement and rejoicing of the enemies. - br>

before me and from behind me. I seek refuge with You lest I
may be misled from beneath me. -
“O Allah! I seek from You consistency in my deeds and
steadfastness on the right path. I seek from You strength to

with You against my such evils which You know. I seek
forgiveness for the sins, which You know. Verily, You know
the unknown. -
“O Allah! Grant me Your fear and purity my soul as You are
the best purifier. You Alone are the Protector and
Guardian. -
“O Allah! I seek refuge with You against such knowledge that
does not profit and against such heart which is not fearful
and against such self which is never satiated and against
such supplication which is not answered. -
“O Allah! Provide me with lawful livelihood, adequate to my
needs instead of ill-gotten one, and graciously grant me
freedom from needing anything from anyone besides Yourself. -
“O Allah! I seek from You Jannah (Paradise) and such deed or
word, which may bring me closer to Jannah. I seek refuge
from You from the Hellfire and such deed or word which may
bring me closer to the Hellfire and I seek from You that
which You have ordained for me and make it good for me. -
- O Allah! Set right for me my religion, which is the
safeguard of my affairs. And set right for me the affairs of
my world wherein is my living. And set right for me my
hereafter on which depends my after-life. And make the life
for me (a source) of abundance for every good and make my
death a source of comfort for me protecting me against every
evil -
